EDINBURGH BOOK FESTIVAL
Monday 28th of August marked the final day of the 34th Edinburgh Book Festival and 30 of our pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience on a trip organised by the English Department and Library. Pupils soaked up the vibrant atmosphere at the Charlotte Square Venue and mingled with authors, illustrators, politicians and performers from over 50 different countries. The highlight of the trip was a talk and reading, entitled "Brexit, Trump and Zombies" by bestselling children's author Darren Shan. The master of children's horror, who was written books such as: The Demonata series, Cirque de Freak and The Thin Executioner, discussed how the 9/11 and London bombings served as the inspiration behind the main themes of his book series ZOM-B, as well as revealing a glimpse into the working life of a writer. Pupils enjoyed asking him questions and having him sign their books.
